刘栋目前在澎湃新闻任首席记者,是中国第一份气候变化专刊《临界点》(Tipping Point) 联合主理人。他采访过许多大人物,也到过许多小地方。对新闻真相的渴望,还有不被浇灭的理想,驱使他一直在路上。
他的报道领域广泛,近几年主要关注气候变化、全球健康和中美关系。在新冠大流行期间的报道被选入北京大学社会化媒体研究中心编写的《大流行病防控媒体报道手册》。2023年,入选《南方人物周刊》“碳路者”故事年度人物报道。
随着经济上的崛起,中国在21世纪的全球舞台上正在重新定位并调整和主要国家之间的关系,中国人如何认识和参与外部世界是刘栋的主要关注。他不仅关心国与国之间的宏观格局,也感兴趣个体在其中的独特故事。他希望用新闻专业主义的方式,给优质资讯匮乏的中文世界提供一个了解世界真相的窗口。
此前,他在Global Times 英文版担任记者。期间被调派至母报《人民日报》国际部赴布鲁塞尔担任欧洲中心分社记者(2014-2016)。2018年获得亚洲新闻奖学金,成为新加坡国立大学李光耀公共政策学院访问学者;
刘栋喜爱旅行、读书、游泳和看电影。去过中国三分之二的省份;在美国、欧洲、香港和新加坡多地生活工作过。他和妻子现常住于上海。
Liu Dong is currently a chief reporter at The Paper (澎湃新闻) in Shanghai and an editor at China's first magazine focusing on climate change 《Tipping Point》
Liu has covered a wide range of issues, in recent years focusing on climate change, global health and China-US Relations.
With its economic rise, China is repositioning itself and readjusting its relations with major countries on the global stage, how the Chinese people perceive and participate in the world is Liu’s main focus. He is interested not only in the relations between countries but also in the stories of individuals. He hopes to use journalistic professionalism to provide a window into the world for Chinese who are not well-informed and global readers who sometimes misunderstand China.
Liu previously worked as an English news reporter for Global Times (2010-2016). During this period, he was assigned to the parent newspaper, People’s Daily, as a correspondent of the European Center in Brussels (2014-2016). In 2018, he was awarded a journalism fellowship in Asia Journalism Fellowship and became a visiting scholar at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at the National University of Singapore.
Liu enjoys traveling, reading, swimming, and watching movies. He had traveled to two-thirds of China’s provinces; and lived and worked in the United States, Europe, Hong Kong, and Singapore. He and his wife are Christians and have a son.
